A thermoplastic tile with a marble-like through-color and through-pattern visual is made by cutting a plurality of multi-colored vinyl composition strips from a tile blanket produced using an industrial mixer and mill following commonly known practices. The strips are heated and fed into a calender nip in such a way that they randomly orient, bend and overlap. The strips pass through the nip and are formed into a tile blanket with a marble-like visual. After further calendering to refine surface and gauge, the tile blanket is cooled and cut into tile.
