PROCESS FOR MAKING A TITANIUM DIOXIDE CONCENTRATE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure relates to a process for a making tita- nium dioxide concentrate by removing iron from material con- taining titanium oxide and iron oxides with the aid of a chlorine-containing gas. To this end, the material contain- ing titanium oxide is kept under agitation and reacted in- side a reaction zone heated to 800 to 1300°C with chlorine gas containing at most 30 volume % inert gas. Resulting iron(III) chloride becomes volatilized and a material consisting sub- stantially of titanium dioxide remains behind, More particu- larly, the material containing titanium oxide is allowed to travel downwardly under the action of gravity and contacted countercurrently with the chlorine gas, or it is fluidized by means of the chlorine gas or allowed to drop in free fall through the reaction zone in upright position and contacted countercurrently with the chlorine gas.
