A process for producing aluminum that includes forming gaseous aluminum and then transforming the gaseous aluminum into solid aluminum through condensation and/or distillation. The aluminum gas is formed by vaporizing alumina or another aluminum containing raw material with an electron beam in the presence of carbon. The gas-containing atmosphere is cooled to capture the aluminum as fine aluminum powder or solid aluminum.
