Ammonia is made from a carbon containing heterogeneous feedstock (A) by partially oxidizing the feedstock in gasifier/gas cleanup unit (1) to generate a synthesis gas containing Co; compressing the synthesis gas in compressor (2) to form a compressed synthesis gas (F) which is mixed with pressurized steam (G) to form a wet compressed synthesis gas (J); reacting the wet compressed synthesis gas (J) in shift reactor unit (3) to form H2; cryogenically removing CO2 from the shifted gas in cryogenic unit (8); feeding the gases (KK) rich in H2 leaving cryogenic unit (8) to pressure during adsorption unit (4) to obtain gas stream (L); mixing gas stream (L) with a high purity N2 stream (P) to form mixed stream (Q) in compressor (5) to form a compressed mixed stream (R) which is fed to ammonia synthesis unit (6). The tail stream (M) from the pressure swing adsorber (4) can be recycled with the synthesis gas for control purposes and for use as boiler fuel.

La fabrication d'ammoniac à partir d'une charge d'alimentation hétérogène (A) contenant du carbone englobe les opérations suivantes: oxydation partielle de la charge dans une unité de gazéification/épuration de gaz pour l'obtention d'un gaz de synthèse renfermant du monoxyde de carbone; compression du gaz de synthèse dans un compresseur permettant d'obtenir un gaz de synthèse comprimé (F) qui, mélangé à de la vapeur sous pression (G), forme un gaz de synthèse comprimé mouillé (J); réaction du gaz de synthèse comprimé mouillé (J) dans un convertisseur pour l'obtention de H¿2?, extraction par cryogenèse du dioxyde de carbone à partir du gaz converti dans l'unité cryogénique (8); transfert des gaz (KK) riches en H¿2? sortant de l'unité cryogénique (8) dans l'unité d'absorption par variation de pression (4) en vue de l'obtention d'un flux gazeux (L); mélange du flux gazeux (L) et d'un courant de N¿2? affiné (P) donnant un courant mélangé (Q) dans le compresseur (5) d'où sort un courant mélangé comprimé (R) qui va alimenter l'unité de synthèse de l'ammoniac. Le courant de queue (M) provenant de l'unité d'absorption par variation de pression (4) peut être recyclé avec le gaz de synthèse à des fins de régulation de la production ou comme combustible de chauffe.
