Disclosed is a process for manufacturing an aromatic diacid in one step with a single catalyst system which comprises: a) introducing into a reactor an aromatic hydrocarbon containing the number of rings desired in the product diacid with one or more alkyl groups attached to the rings; b) reacting said aromatic hydrocarbon in the presence of an oxidant supply and a single catalyst system comprising at least one catalyst selected from Group IB, IIB, VB, or VIIB of the Periodic Table, in a reaction medium capable of stabilizing the aromatic acids formed against further oxidation to water and CO2, or decarboxylation to aromatic hydrocarbons, and also capable of allowing the isomerization of the acids so formed to the desired diacids; and c) reacting said hydrocarbon feed with said oxidant in the presence of said catalyst system until a desired amount of said feed is oxidized to carboxylic acids and isomerized to the desired diacid product.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de préparer un diacide aromatique en une étape au moyen d'un système catalyseur unique. Ce procédé comprend les étapes suivantes: On introduit dans un réacteur un hydrocarbure aromatique contenant le nombre de cycles qu'on désire obtenir dans le produit diacide résultant, comprenant un ou plusieurs groupes alkyle attachés à ces cycles, b) on fait réagir cet hydrocarbure aromatique en présence d'une source d'oxydant et d'un système catalyseur unique comprenant au moins un catalyseur sélectionné dans les groupes IB, IIB, VB, ou VIIB de la table périodique, dans un milieu réactionnel capable de stabiliser les acides aromatiques formés de manière à limiter leur oxydation en eau et en CO¿2? ou à limiter leur décarboxylation en hydrocarbures aromatiques, et capable en outre de permettre l'isomérisation des acides de manière à former les diacides souhaités; et c) on fait réagir cette charge d'hydrocarbure avec l'oxydant en présence du système catalyseur jusqu'à ce qu'une quantité voulue de cette charge soit oxydée en acides carboxyliques et isomérisée de manière à former le produit diacide souhaité.
