The invention relates to a method for preparing a cobaltous hydroxide with a high density and a large particle size or an alloy hydroxide of cobalt and some other metal, in which a complexing agent and hydroxide ion is added to an aqueous cobalt brine or an aqueous brine of cobalt and some other metal under alkaline conditions in order to form a metal hydroxide. In this method, the complexing agent is selected so as to form an ammonium complex with the metal ion. The molar ratio of complexing agent to metal is about 0.5-3, and the pH is regulated in the range 10-13.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de préparer un hydroxyde de cobalt haute densité à granulométrie élevée ou un alliage d'hydroxyde de cobalt et d'un autre métal quelconque. Ledit procédé consiste à ajouter un agent complexant et des ions hydroxyde à une saumure aqueuse de cobalt ou à une saumure aqueuse de cobalt et d'un autre métal dans des conditions alcalines, de manière à former un hydroxyde métallique. Selon ce procédé, l'agent complexant est choisi de manière à former un complexe d'ammonium avec l'ion métallique. Le rapport molaire agent complexant/métal est de l'ordre de 0,5-3, et le pH est ajusté de manière à être compris entre 10 et 13.
