The present invention is directed to producing a resin which, when formed into a film, has excellent gas barrier and/or moisture barrier (low MVTR) properties. Further, the resin has a relatively high molecular weight distribution, preferably above 6, and has excellent processability/extrudability. The resin is produced using a cyclopentadienyl chromium compound, preferably a mono CpCr compound, on a support, preferably a silica support. A particularly preferred catalyst for use in the present invention comprises pentamethylcyclopentadienyldimethylchromiumpyridine. Preferably, the catalyst is used in a slurry polymerization process.

L'invention concerne la production d'une résine qui, une fois mise sous la forme d'un film, possède d'excellentes propriétés de membrane étanche à la vapeur d'eau et/ou aux gaz (MVTR ou taux de perméabilité à la vapeur d'eau: faible). En outre, cette résine possède une répartition des poids moléculaires relativement élevée, de préférence supérieure à 6, et elle possède également d'excellentes aptitudes au traitement/à l'extrusion. On produit cette résine en utilisant un composé cyclopentadiényle chrome, de préférence un composé mono CpCr, sur support, préférablement sur support de silice. Le catalyseur que l'on préfère tout particulièrement pour mettre en oeuvre l'invention est à base de pentaméthylcyclopentadiényldiméthylchromepyridine. De préférence, on utilise ce catalyseur dans un processus de polymérisation de pâte.
