A process of making polytrimethylene terephthalate staple fibers, comprising (a) providing polytrimethylene terephthalate, (b) melt spinning the melted polytrimethylene terephthalate at a temperature of 245-285~C into filaments, (c) quenching the filaments, (d) drawing the quenched filaments, (e) crimping the drawn filaments using a mechanical crimper at a crimp level of 8-30 crimps per inch (3 - 12 crimps/cm), (f) relaxing the crimped filaments at a temperature of 50-120~C, and (g) cutting the relaxed filaments into staple fibers having a length of about 0.2-6 inches (about 0.5 - about 15 cm), and polytrimethylene terephthalate staple fibers, yarns and fabrics. Further, a process of optimizing the crimp take-up of a polytrimethylene terephthalate staple fiber comprising determining the relationship between denier and crimp take-up and manufacturing staple fibers having a denier selected based upon that determination.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de produire des fibres discontinues de polytriméthylène téréphthalate, qui consiste a) à fournir du polytriméthylène téréphthalate, b) à filer par fusion le polytriméthylène téréphthalate fondu à une température de 245-285 ·C en filaments, c) à tremper lesdits filaments, d) à étirer les filaments trempés, e) à friser les filaments étirés à l'aide d'une crêpeuse mécanique à un niveau de frisure de 8-30 frisures par pouce (3 - 12 frisures/cm), f) à relaxer les filaments frisés à une température de 50-120 ·C, et g) à couper les filaments relaxés en fibres discontinues dont la longueur est d'environ 0,2-6 pouces (environ 0,5 à 15 cm), et en fibres discontinues, fils et tissus de polytriméthylène téréphthalate. L'invention concerne également un procédé permettant d'optimiser l'enroulement <=take-up>= d'une frisure de fibre discontinue de polytriméthylène téréphthalate qui consiste à déterminer la relation entre un denier et un enroulement <=take-up>=, et à produire de fibres discontinues dont le denier est sélectionné en fonction de cette détermination.
