ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for making a compound having the formula R-O-R1OH where R is phenyl or phenyl substituted with C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy or methylenedioxy; and R1 is C5-C6 cycloalk- 1,2-ylene or C5-C6 cycloalk-1,2-ylene substituted with C1-C4 alkyl or C1-C4 alkoxy, useful as an intermediate in the manufacture of organic sulfite esters, is disclosed. In this process a compound of the formula ROH, where R has the meanings given above is reacted with a compound selected from the group consisting of cyclopentene oxide, cyclohexene oxide, cyclopentene oxide substituted with C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy or vinyl and cyclohexene oxide substi- tuted with C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy or vinyl.
