PROCESS FOR MANGANESE REMOVAL FROM METAL BEARING SOLUTIONS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process of the preferential removal of soluble manganous ions from a metal bearing solution, particularly a zinc sulfate solution to be subjected to electrolysis for the recovery of zinc, comprising treating said solution with an oxi- dant capable of oxidizing soluble manganous ion to insoluble and filterable gamma-manganese dioxide at a temperature and for a time sufficient to precipitate at least a portion of the mangan- ese present in said solution as gamma-manganese dioxide, said theoretical amount required for substantially total manganese removal from said solution, and separating said precipitate from said solution.
