PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURE OF 1 1-DICHLOROTETRAFLUOROETHANE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the manufacture of 1,1-di- chlorotetrafluoroethane, CF3CCl2F (CFC-114a), sub- stantially free of 1,2-dichlorotetrafluoroethane, CClF2CClF2 (CFC-114), and over-fluorinated products [e.g., CF3CClF2 and CF3CF3) comprising the steps of contacting a trichlorotrifluoroethane liquid phase [e.g., a mixture of 1,1,1-trichlorotrifluoroethane, CCl3CF3 (CFC-113a) and 1,1,2-trichlorotrifluoroethane, CClF2CCl2F (CFC-113)] with an antimony pentahalide catalyst (e.g., SbCl5-xFx, where x is 0 to 3) and separating a gaseous 1,1-dichlorotetrafluoroethane product. Nearly quantitative conversion of CF3CCl3 to CF3CCl2F, with no perceptible production of CClF2CClF2, can be achieved in a continuous process. The CF3CCl2F is useful as an intermediate in the manufacture of hydrochlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbons. CH-1650
