In the manufacture of derived wood panels, especially those made on a continuous operation press, an undesirable glossy layer is often formed on one or both surfaces of the panel. This glossy layer impedes slip and adhesion qualities of the panel, as well as reducing the water absorptivity. The object of the present invention is to remove the glossy layer on derived wood panels by means of partial or complete ablation.
