Process for manufacturing 1-(3-trifluoromethyl)phenyl-propan-2-one intermediate in the synthesis of the anorexic drug fenfluramine. The process consists in reacting the diazonium salt of the 3-trifluoromethylaniline with isopropenyl acetate in a polar solvent in presence of catalytic amounts of a cuprous or cupric salt or of a mixture thereof and, optionally, of a base and inpurifying the raw product through bisulfite complex or distillation under vacuum.

Méthode pour préparer l'intermédiaire 1-(3-trifluorométhyl)phénylpropan-2-one dans la synthèse de la fenfluramine, médicament pour l'anorexie. On fait réagir le sel de diazonium de la 3-trifluorométhylaniline avec l'acétate d'isopropényle dans un solvant polaire en présence de quantités catalytiques d'un sel cuivreux ou cuivrique, ou d'un mélange des deux, et, facultativement, d'une base, et on purifie le produit brut à l'aide d'un complexe de bisulfite ou par distillation sous vide.
