ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The forming of crushing bodies from a ferrous alloy containing at least 1% by weight of carbon comprises exclusively an operation for solidifying in an open ingot mould a section coming from continuous casting of said alloy, followed by division of said section into portions of the desired length, this sizing to length being preceded of followed by a heat treatment conferring on the metal an austenitic or martensitic structure. The crushing bodies have high hardness and are suitable for use in a very abrasive environment with consider- able humidity.
