- 27 - Abstract of the Disclosure PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING GRANULAR SUBSTANCES USING VAPOROUS REACTANT, AND FOR CLEANING IMPURE ACID Potassium Chloride is introduced cold into the reactor chamber, which already contains potassium sulphate particles and sulphuric acid vapour at 460-590 degC. The acid vapour is forced under pressure through a reactor grid, whereby the particles are blown around within the reactor chamber. Under these conditions, the chloride first converts to the liquid bisulphate phase, which collects on the (solid) sulphate particles. As the liquid bisulphate heats up, in the presence of the acid vapour, it converts to the sulphate. The K2SO4 produced thereby is already in the granular form as required for use as a fertilizer. The invention also allows grease-laden sulphuric acid to be used. The acid is sprayed onto a fluidised bed, air passing through the bed being hot enough to ignite the hydrocarbons. The heat also vapourizos the acid, and the cleaned acid vapour passes directly to, and though, the reactor grid.
