A process for manufacturing an optical fiber ribbon containing two or more optical fibers. The fibers are aligned longitudinally in a planar array and covered with a radiation curable coating material. The curable material is then cured by ultraviolet radiation simultaneously and uniformly directed on opposite surfaces of the coating material on the planar array, forming a fiber ribbon array. Further layers of radiation curable material may be similarly formed on the first layer. Also, the product of such process and apparatus for performing the process which includes a fixed source of radiation at one side of the coated array and a second source of radiation at the opposite side of the coated array for simultaneously irradiating both sides of the same length of the coated array.
