PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF PRESSED PEAT SUBSTRATES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In order to produce pressed peat substrate, it is first necessary to obtain a peat substrate with a moisture content of 93 to 97 percent. To this end, the peaty mass is wetted with an aqueous solution of calcitic materials, inorganic fertilizers and trace elements. The resultant substrate is pressed and dried at a temperature in the range from 40 to 105°C. to an average moisture content through the bulk of the pressed peat substrate of at least 15 percent. The proposed process produces pressed peat substrates which are sturdy enough to protect the root system of plants in the course of transportation and replanting, at the same presenting no soil pollution problem such as exists with prior art substrates which use synthetic materials to help main- tain a specified shape of the substrates. The pressed peat substrate manufactured in accordance with the proposed process may be produced as blocks of individual planting cells having a geometrically regular and stable shape, which makes the pro- cesses of utilization of the pressed blocks readily mechani- zable.
