n the process of modifying the resolution of an image obtained by digitization of a real scene, the digitized image being made up of a large number of pixels of known intensity, contours in the digitized image are searched for an isolated, then extra pixels are created by interpolating from the intensities of the original pixels on one side of a given contour to form a modified-resolution image; the contour search is done by locating, for nearby pixels, intensity transitions indicative of a gradient that exceeds a given threshold.
