ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process, with the associated apparatus, for moulding moulded articles from binder-containing organic fibres is described, using pressure and temperatures of more than 100°C. The material is preferably in the form of fibrous mats containing max. 50% of heat-hardening binder and having a processing moisture content of more than 5% and preferably 10 to 25%. The compression of the mat takes place in a single mould stroke, which may be accompanied by additional shaping. With the mould closed, steam pressure is exclusively produced during the minimum curing time of the binder in a closed, material- containing volume and is maintained under overpressure, it being possible to introduce additional external steam before or during this time. Following the minimum curing time, the steam pressure and moisture in the moulded material are re- duced without any significant change to the mould temperature and the moulding pressure to the end of steam pressure re- duction is not reduced below a value required for keeping the mould steam tight and for maintaining a surface pressure, which is at least equivalent to the steam pressure in the material. At the end of steam pressure reduction from the moulding pressure, the mould is relieved and opened for removing the workpiece.
