A B S T R A C T There is provided a novel process for the neutral- ization of waste industrial sulfuric acids which comprises partially neutralizing waste industrial sulfuric acids with asbestos tailings, thereby forming a slurry containing magnesium sulfate and subjecting said slurry to a further neutralization step under oxidizing conditions by the addition of asbestos tailings which may be followed by the addition of magnesium hydroxide until the pH of the slurry is about 7.0 and recovering the filtrate containing the magnesium sulfate thus formed.
