ABSTRACT A practically water-free carbon black is obtained from aqueous suspensions by mixing the suspension with liquid low-boiling hydrocarbons, then expanding the mixture in a vessel to evaporate the hydrocarbons, then drawing off separately the hydrocarbon vapours carrying the carbon black and the remaining liquid aqueous phase from the vessel, and separating the carbon black from the hydrocarbon vapours.
