An apparatus for on-site treatment of a substantially isolated body of water is provided. The apparatus includes a housing having an inlet and an outlet, a treatment zone comprising at least one lamp disposed between the inlet and outlet and capable of emitting visible or ultraviolet radiation, and a means for providing relative movement between the body of water and the housing. In use, at least a portion of the body of water passes through the inlet to the treatment zone and is thereafter discharged through the outlet of the housing. A process for utilizing the apparatus is also provided.
