ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for separating vapourous or gaseous impurities from a flow of air or gas by means of an adsorption filter is disclosed. After a predetermined charge of impurities has been reached in the filter, an inert gas is passed through a recirculating circuit including the filter and a heat exchanger. Exhaust gases from a burner are used to heat the inert gas via the heat exchanger for desorption of the impurities in the filter. Excess inert gas and desorbate from the recirculating circuit are withdrawn and passed to the burner along with a volume of air sufficient for complete combustion of the desorbate. In the preferred embodiments, the temperature of the exhaust gas from the burner is monitored and the supplies of an auxillary fuel and combustion air are controlled in accordance with that monitored temperature.
