TITLE: PROCESS FOR POST-TREATMENT OF TITANIUM DIOXIDE ABSTRACT: This invention concerns a post-treatment of TiO2 having pigmentary morphological and granulometric characteristics, the purpose of said treatment to confer to the pigment a compact, uniform and adhering coating with a controllable specific surface. The process consists of three stages: 1. the surface of the TiO2 particles is activated in a moving bed by treatment with an anhydrous gas at 400°-600°C; 2. the particles are made to react, and in the presence of a carrier gas, and in a moving bed, with one or more chlorides chosen from the group consisting of AlCl3, SiCl4 and ZrCl4, at temperatures between 400° and 700°C; and 3. the particles are treated with a gas containing water vapor at between 200° and 400°C. During the second stage, the chlorides may be allowed to react with oxygen with con- sequential deposit on the particles of the corresponding oxides.
