ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is provided herein for precluding or reducing the danger to a non-preinerted, nuclear reactor containment system and the enclosed equip- ment by means of mixtures comprising reactive substances which react chemically and by the release of fission products during an accident entailing a genera- tion of hydrogen which causes such danger. The method includes first at least partially separating at least one portion of the reactive substances into a first area and a second area, and keeping those reactive substances separated during a system malfunction or a potentially dangerous reaction. That system malfunction or potentially dangerous reaction in the first hazardous area is stopped by transferring at least one portion of at least one of those reactive substances into the second area.
