ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the preparation of lead compounds having a composition represented by the following general formula: nPbO.PbX2/x wherein Y stands for a residue of an inorganic acid or organic acid. x indicates the valency of the residue X and n is a number of from 0 to 5. which comprises reacting a lead monoxide having a true density of 8.3 to 9.2 g/cc. an average particle size not larger than 0.2 µ. an infrared absorption peak at a wave number of 1400 to 1410 cm-1 and a chromic anhydride reactivity of at least 94%. with a corresponding inorganic acid, its acidic oxide, a corresponding organic acid or a functional derivative thereof is disclosed. According to this process, various lead compounds valuable as pigments, anti-corrosive agents and thermal stablizers can be advantageously prepared without use of a catalyst such as acetic acid. Waste water con- taining lead is not discharged in this process. There- fore, the process involves no risk of environmental pollution.
