A two-step process for the production of polyamides from .alpha.,.omega.- dinitriles and .alpha.,.omega.diamines involving the catalytic hydrolysis of the .alpha.,.omega.dinitrile by addition of water with simultaneous purging of the reactor (i.e., venting of ammonia and water vapor) in the first step followed by polymerization by addition of the .alpha.,.omega.-diamine to the hydrolysate in the second step. Such a process is particularly useful in the production of poly(hexamethylene adipamide), i.e., nylon 6,6, from adiponitrile and hexamethylene diamine using lower catalyst levels during hydrolysis and resulting in reduced levels of bis(hexamethylene)triamine, BHMT, in the polymer.
L'invention concerne un procédé biphasique permettant la production de polyamides à partir de alpha , omega -dinitriles et alpha , omega -diamines faisant intervenir l'hydrolyse catalytique du alpha , omega -dinitrile par addition d'eau et purge simultanée du réacteur (notamment le dégazage de l'ammonium et de la vapeur d'eau) au cours de la première phase. La seconde phase consiste à polymériser par addition de la alpha , omega -diamine l'hydrolysat. Un tel procédé est particulièrement utile dans la production de poly(hexaméthylène adipamide), notamment le nylon 6,6, à partir d'adiponitrile et hexaméthylène diamine grâce à de bas niveaux catalytiques. On obtient de ce fait des niveaux réduits de bis(hexaméthylène)triamine, BHMT, dans le polymère.
