PROCESS FOR PREPARING 1,2-DIACYL- 3-GLYCERYLPHOSPHORYLCHOLINES Abstract A process is described for preparing a 1,2-diacyl- 3-glycerylphosphorylcholine of the formula: Image wherein R and R' are the same or different residues of a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid. According to the process a glycerylphosphorylcholine or monoacyl derivative thereof or the salt thereof is acylated with 1-acylimidazole or 4-acyl- 3-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5-one in the presence of an alkali salt of a nitorgen-containing 5-membered heterocyclic compound or sodium oxide as a catalyst. The product is well known as "lecithin" and is widely used in the medical and pharmaceutical fields.
