A process for preparing 1,3-alkanediols and 3-hydroxyaldehydes by hydroformylating an oxirane with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a cobalt-based catalyst and a promoter that is a lipophilic quaternary salt of a Group V element. The process enables the production of 1,3-propanediol in high yields and selectivity.

Procédé de préparation de 1,3-alcanediols et de 3-hydroxyaldéhydes par hydroformylation d'un oxyrane avec du monoxyde de carbone et de l'hydrogène, en présence d'un catalyseur à base de cobalt et d'un promoteur qui est un sel quaternaire lipophile d'un élément du groupe V. Ce procédé permet de produire du 1,3-propanediol avec des rendements et une sélectivité élevés.
