Disclosed is a process for hydrating an alpha, beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid, such as acrylic acid, in water, in the presence of a catalyst selected from carbon dioxide, a sulfur oxide, a nitrogen oxide, gaseous hydrochloric acid, an inorganic or organic base having a pKa greater than 7, to prepare a 3- hydroxycarboxylic acid such as 3-hydroxypropionic acid. Also disclosed is a process for recovering 3-hydroxypropionic acid from a solution comprising the 3-hydroxypropionic acid.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'hydratation d'acide carboxylique alpha,bêta-insaturé, tel que l'acide acrylique, dans de l'eau, en présence d'un catalyseur choisi parmi le dioxyde de carbone, l'oxyde de soufre, l'oxyde d'azote, l'acide hydrochlorique gazeux, une base inorganique ou organique présentant un pKa supérieur à 7, de sorte à obtenir un acide 3-hydroxycarboxylique, tel que l'acide 3-hydroxypropionique. L'invention concerne également un procédé de récupération d'acide 3-hydroxypropionique à partir d'une solution contenant ledit acide 3-hydroxypropionique.
