ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Processes for preparing 3-(N-aryl-N-acylamino)- gamma-butyrothiolactone fungicides. The process comprises cleaving the corresponding arylamino-gamma-lactone with a thiolate salt to yield the corresponding arylamino-thiol- alkane carboxylate salt; hydrolyzing the salt and then acylating the acid to yield the corresponding N-acyl-N- arylamino product. This product is then cyclized to yield the subject compound.
