ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a process for pre- paring 6-(lower)alkoxy-1-naphthoic acids and the corresponding esters. This process consists in reacting the furoic acid with an alkoxyphenyl, followed by the action of an alkylating agent on the resultant mixture, the ester obtained being optionally hydrolysed so as to obtain the corresponding acid. The invention also comprises the appli- cation of this process to the preparation of 6-(lower) alkoxy- 5-halo 1-naphthoic acids and the corresponding esters. -16-
