ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a process for preparing a polymer of the cross-linked polyurethane type, whereby 1) the following are reacted: a) a polyolether, chosen from the group constituted by the oxyalkylene polyols (1) and mixtures thereof, ob- tained by condensation of polyol (11) containing at least 2 OH groups and preferably 3 to 6 OH groups with an alkylene oxide (111) at a rate of 1 to 20 moles of (111) per free OH group of (11), and b) a polyisocyanate (IV), containing at least two free NCO groups per molecule. the reaction being effected with an excess of OH groups of (1) with respect to the NCO isocyanate groups of (lV) to obtain a polyurethane-polyol (V) having free OH groups; and 2) the polyurethane-polyol (V) thus obtained is reacted with epichlorhydrin (Vl) and a polyamine (Vll) chosen from the poly- amines having at least two NH2 amino groups and mixtures thereof. The invention also relates to this polymer as new industrial product and to its application as swelling agent.
