A process for preparing a solid polymer electrolyte membrane comprising an ion- conducting polymer, a catalyst and a high surface area support material, which process comprises: (a) associating the catalyst with the support material to form a catalysed support; and (b) combining the catalysed support with an ion- conducting polymer composition; is disclosed. Also disclosed is a membrane electrode assembly and a fuel cell comprising a solid polymer electrolyte membrane prepared by the process of the invention.

L'invention porte sur un procédé d'obtention d'une membrane électrolyte de polymère solide faite d'un polymère conducteur d'ions, d'un catalyseur et d'un matériau support de grande surface. Ledit procédé consiste: (a) à associer le catalyseur au matériau support pour former un support de catalyseur, et (b) à combiner ledit support avec une composition de polymère conducteur d'ions. L'invention porte également sur une électrode membrane et sur une pile à combustible comportant une membrane électrolyte de polymère solide obtenue à l'aide du susdit procédé.
