The complexes have the formula: [L a M b X c] n (A) n' in which M rhodium or cobalt as a central atom, X is a monodentate or multidentate, charged or uncharged ligand bound to the central atom and L is a ligand, bound to the central atom, which is a monocarbene of the formulae Image or a dicarbene of the formulae Image where R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are, for example, sulfonated or unsulfonated aliphatic or aromatic radicals.
