ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Process for preparing alkaline metal salts of polyethoxycarboxylic acids which can be defined by means of the general formula: R'-(O-R)m (O-CH2-CH2)n-1-(O-CH2)-COO Me by oxidation with oxygen, or with a gas containing molecu- lar oxygen, in the presence of a catalyst of platinum or of palladium, in an aqueous-alkaline medium, of polyethoxyl alcohols which can be defined by means of the general for- mula: R'-(O-R)m-(O-CH2-CH2)n-OH followed by the reactivating of the catalyst in the reaction mixture, and by the recovery, in an active form, of the insoluble catalyst fraction and of the catalyst fraction dissolved in said reaction mixture. Said alkaline metal salts of polyethoxycarboxylic acids form surfactant agents, particularly useful in the tertiary recovery of crude oil from wells of medium and high salinity.
