The invention concerns a process for preparing a tertiary alkyl ether product. The process comprises reacting the isoolefins of an olefinic hydrocarbon feedstock in a reaction zone (1 - 3) with an alkanol to form a reaction mixture, which is subjected to distillation in a first distillation zone (4). The bottoms product of the first distillation contains the ether(s), whereas the overhead stream contains unreacted alkanol and a mixture of light hydrocarbons. The overhead stream is subjected to a second distillation in a second distillation zone (15). The overhead product of the second distillation mainly contains the lightest hydrocarbons and a small amount of alkanol, and the bottoms product contains an essentially oxygenate-free hydrocarbon stream which can be used as such for alkylation. In order to increase the conversion of the process, a side drawoff is withdrawn from the second distillation zone (15) and recirculated to the reaction zone (1 - 3).

Méthode pour préparer un produit de type éther-oxyde d'alkyle tertiaire. La méthode consiste à faire réagir, dans une zone réactionnelle (1-3), les isooléfines d'une alimentation de composés oléfiniques avec un alcanol pour former un mélange réactionnel, puis à procéder à la distillation dans une première zone de distillation (4). Les produits de queue de la première distillation renferment les éthers-oxydes, alors que le distillat de tête contient l'alcanol n'ayant pas réagi et un mélange d'hydrocarbures légers. Le distillat de tête est distillé une seconde fois dans une deuxième zone de distillation (15). Le produit de tête de la seconde distillation renferme principalement les hydrocarbures les plus légers et une petite quantité d'alcanol; le produit de queue contient des hydrocarbures pratiquement exempts de composantes oxygénées, lesquels peuvent être utilisés comme tels pour l'alkylation. Pour augmenter le taux de conversion du procédé, on soutire du produit de la seconde zone de distillation (15) et on l'amène par recirculation dans la zone réactionnelle (1-3).
