ABSTRACT Process for preparing .alpha.-aryl propionic acids of formula Image (I) in which A is a simple or substituted aryl radical. The process from a methyl-aryl ketone of the formula A-CO-CH3 which is reacted with a compound of formula CHX3, where X is Cl or Br; in the presence of an alkaline hydrate and of a phase transfer catalyst. It forms a mixture of aryl-aliphatic acids Image which is reduced to the compound (I) by means of HI in glacial acetic acid, at 60-70°C. The .alpha.-aryl propionic acids are known compounds.
