ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to new haloketals of the general formula (Ia) Image (Ia) wherein R is selected from the group comprising 4-isobutyl- phenyl-, 4-propionamido-phenyl, 4-phthalimido- phenyl-2-fluoro-4-diphenylyl-, 2-thienyl, 4- diphenylyl, 3-chloro-4-cyclohexyl-phenyl, 3- phenoxy-phenyl, 4-bromo-phenyl, and 4-(1-oxo-2- isoindolinyl)-phenyl; R''' is selected from the group comprising hydrogen and methyl radical; R' is an alkyl radical having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R" is an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R' and R", together are an alkylene radical having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms which, together with the Image group, forms a hetero- cyclic ring; X is a halogen atom; and a process for their preparation. The process comprises reacting a halo-ketone of the general formula R-CO-CHX-R''' with the alcohols and diols of R'OH, R"OH and HO-A-OH and A is an alkylene radical of C2-6. These compounds are useful intermediates used for the preparation of esters of alkanoic acids which are in turn useful as intermediates in the produc- tion of drugs such as anti-inflammatories, analgesics and antipyretics.
