ABSTRACT The invention concerns a process for preparing an improved packaging preferably for cheese and a cheese packaging obtained thereby. This cheese packaging comprises at least one packaging film 1 provided with zones of different gas/moisture permea- bility in function of the location of said film zones with regard to the cheese, and is characterized in that said packaging film is provided with a gas/moisture barrier zone (22,24) with low gas/moisture permeability in front of, or in contact with, each cheese cut surface (26,28); and with a gas/moisture permeable zone (12,14) with high gas/ moisture permeability in front of, or in contact with, each cheese rind surface (16,18,20). The invention provides aerobioses in the rind surfaces of cheese while achieving an aerobiosis in the cut surfaces of the cheese wherein the paste must not breathe. This ensures a geater shelf life and improves the quality of the cheese and the organoleptic properties thereof.
