Carbon nanotubes are produced using a silane procedure, in which a substrate such as carbon paper or stainless steel mesh is immersed in a silane solution of a metal catalyst, preferable Co:Ni in a 1:1 ratio; and a feedstock gas containing a carbon source such as ethylene is fed through the substrate and the catalyst deposited thereon while the substrate is heated by applying an electrical current thereto. Thus, a reaction occurs between the catalyst and the gas to yield carbon nanotubes supported on the conductive substrate. These composite electrodes may be used in electrochemistry or infield emitting applications.

L'invention concerne des nanotubes de carbone obtenus à l'aide d'un procédé au silane, selon lequel un substrat, par exemple du papier de carbone ou une maille en acier inoxydable, est immergé dans une solution au silane d'un catalyseur métallique, de préférence Co:Ni selon un rapport de 1:1, et un gaz d'alimentation contenant une source de carbone telle que l'éthylène est injecté dans le substrat et le catalyseur déposé dessus tandis que le substrat est chauffé par application d'un courant électrique. Une réaction se produit ainsi entre le catalyseur et le gaz de manière à obtenir des nanotubes de carbone supportés par le substrat conducteur. Ces électrodes composites peuvent être utilisées en électrochimie ou dans des applications à émission de champ.
