- 31 - Abstract: Disclosed is a process for preparing diester of carbonic acid from carbon monoxide and a nitrite in the presence of a solid catalyst in which at least one of a platinum group metal and a platinum group metal compound, and optionally other metal compound, is carried on a carrier, character- ized in that a deactivated catalyst is regenerated by treating with hydrogen and with hydrogen chloride simul- taneously or successively and used the regenerated catalyst repeatedly.
