ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE There is disclosed an improvement in the process for the preparation of nitriles by the reaction of alcohols or aldehydes with ammonia in the presence of a supported copper catalyst. The improvement consists in carry- ing out the reaction in the presence of approximately 20 to 50% by volume of hydrogen, based upon the ammonia-hydrogen mixture.
