The invention concerns a novel, particularly economical, process for preparing powdery polysaccharide derivatives, in particular cellulose derivatives with a thermal flocculation point. The process includes the swelling or dissolution of the polysaccharide derivative in a solvent or solvent mixture, breaking up/comminuting the swollen or dissolved polysaccharide derivative by thermal and/or mechanical liquid separation, and optionally a drying step.
