PROCESS FOR PREPARING GLYOXYLIC ACID ABSTRACT This invention relates to an improved process for obtaining glyoxylic acid in the form of monohydrate by (1) ozonolysis of maleic acid in lower alkanol such as methanol, (2) catalytic hydrogenation of the ozonolysis product in the presence of antioxidant such as hydroquinone, phenothiazine and 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol; and (3) followed by hydrolyzing the hydrogenated product.
