PROCESS FOR PREPARING HALOGENATED BENZENE DERIVATIVES Abstract of the Disclosure Halogenated benzene derivatives are prepared at a high selectivity to the p-halogenated isomer by halogenating benzene or benzene derivative in the presence of a zeolite containing catalyst which contains an aluminum compound other than the zeolite component in the catalyst in an amount of 0.01 to 40% by weight as Al2O3 based on the weight of the catalyst. Such halogenated benzene derivatives are useful in the pro- duction of other compounds such as pigments but also as a de- odorizer or insecticide. The use of a zeolite catalyst is part- icularly effective in controlling the relative production of the ortho- and para-dichlorobenzene.
