ABSTRACT: A process for preparing high-molecular-weight polyesters is disclosed. The process comprises reacting an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with a mixture of alkanediols and alkenediols, with substantial exclusion of oxygen and in the presence of a catalyst. According to the invention, the polycondensation step is continued until a viscosity number in the range from 50 to 140 cm3/g is achieved and the polyester so obtained is subsequently subjected to a solid-phase postcondensation step, until the required viscosity number is achieved. The process of the invention makes it possible to obtain quickly and economically small amounts of high molecular weight polyesters, from which films, profiles, hollow articles, shaped parts etc. can be produced by injection moulding.
