The present invention concerns a process for preparing higher primary alkanols and in particular for preparing 1-octacosanol comprising a multistep process involving reacting cyclodecanone with a secondary amine, reacting the resulting 1-amino-1-cyclodecene with an activated alkanoic acid, subjecting the thus obtained 2-n.alkyl-cyclotetradecan-1,3-dione to a ring opening reaction and a Wolff-Kishner conversion, eterifying the thus obtained alkanoic acid with an alkanol and subsequently reducing the thus obtained ester to the desired higher primary alcohol.

Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé pour la préparation d'alcanols primaires supérieurs et notamment pour la préparation de 1-octacosanol, ce procédé comprenant plusieurs étapes consistant à mettre en réaction une cyclodécanone avec une amine secondaire, à mettre en réaction le 1-amino-1-cyclodécène qui en résulte avec un acide alcanoïque activé, à soumettre la 2-n.alkyle-cyclotétradécan-1,3-dione ainsi obtenue à une réaction d'ouverture de cycle et à une conversion de Wolff-Kishner, à étérifier l'acide alcanoïque ainsi obtenu avec un alcanol et à réduire ensuite l'ester ainsi obtenu pour former l'alcool primaire supérieur recherché.
