A process for preparing hydrogen-terminated polyoxyperfluo- roalkanes having molecular weight lower than 1800, by decar- boxylation of the corresponding polyoxyperfluoroalkanes haying one or two end groups selected from -OCF2COOZ, -OCF2CF2COOZ and -OCF(CF3)COOZ, wherein Z is an alkaline metal or ammonium, carried out in the presence of water at tempera- tures from 140°-170°C and under a pressure of at least 4 atmospheres.
