The present invention refers to a process for the preparation of a copolymer containing structural units derived from .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acids and their salts, half-esters or dicarboxylic acids or salts thereof, an olefin and a hydrophobic moiety, said hydrophobic moiety being incorporated into the copolymer chain; said process comprises reacting a) at least one monomer selected from .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated mono-carboxylic acids and their salts; and .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated dicarboxylic acids, their half-esters and salts thereof; b) at least one monomer selected from olefins; and c) at least one hydrophobic compound free of olefinic unsaturation containing units of formula (I) wherein R1 is independently at each occurrence selected from hydrogen and C1-C4 alkyl with the proviso that at least one R1 is selected from C1-C4 alkyl in an amount of 0.01 to 30 weight percent, based on the total amount of a), b) and c); at a temperature in the range of 25 ~C to 100 ~C, and in the presence of a free-radical initiator in an amount of 1.0 weight percent-25 weight percent, based on the total weight of a), b) and c), to copolymers obtainable therefrom and the use of these polymers as cement additives.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'un copolymère contenant des unités structurelles dérivées d'acides monocarboxyliques ou dicarboxyliques .alpha.,.beta.-insaturés, ainsi que leurs sels, les semi-esters d'acides dicarboxyliques ou de sels de ceux-ci, une oléfine et un fragment hydrophobe, ce fragment hydrophobe étant incorporé à la chaîne du copolymère. Ce procédé consiste à faire réagir a) au moins un monomère choisi parmi les acides monocarboxyliques .alpha.,.beta.-insaturés et leurs sels ; et les acides dicarboxyliques .alpha.,.beta.-insaturés, les semi-esters, et les sels de ceux-ci ; b) au moins un monomère choisi parmi les oléfines ; et c) au moins un composé hydrophobe exempt de toute insaturation oléfinique et contenant des unités de formule (I), dans laquelle R?1¿ est toujours choisi indépendamment parmi hydrogène et alkyle C¿1?-C¿4?, à condition qu'au moins un des R?1¿ soit choisi à partir d'alkyle C¿1?-C¿4? dans une proportion variant entre 0,01 et 30 pour cent en poids sur la base de la quantité totale de a), b), et c) ; à une température située entre 25 ·C et 100 ·C, et en présence d'une quantité d'un initiateur radicalaire variant entre 1,0 pour cent en poids et 25 pour cent en poids, sur la base du poids total de a), b), et c). Cette invention concerne enfin les copolymères pouvant être obtenus selon ce procédé, ainsi que leur utilisation comme additifs à ciment.
